How to Art Direct Your Newsletter, the class

Your newsletter can look as good as it reads.

In this live online class, you’ll learn how to think like a professional art director — and use those skills for your own publication, even without a big budget or visual background.

What we’ll cover:

  • How to develop a signature art direction for your publication
  • Where to find free and low-cost image libraries
  • How to stay copyright-safe and avoid claims
  • Production best practices for optimal reader UX
  • How to make collages and composite images
  • How to apply your art direction to other platforms

You’ll leave with a clear sense of how to develop your publication’s visual voice, a toolkit of go-to resources, and the confidence to art direct every post yourself.

The workshop includes a live Q&A and open discussion via Google Meet, so bring your questions. You’ll get a copy of the slides after the session wraps.

Option 1:  Thursday, May 21 at 1:00 PM ET on Google Meet
Option 2: Wednesday, May 27 at 7:00 PM ET on Google Meet

  • $75
  • The 90-minute class includes a 1-hour presentation and a 30-minute Q&A

Testimonials

“This class will teach you how to look at your Substack design through an art director's eye. It was super helpful for understanding newsletter strategy even when you aren't a full-time writer. I really appreciated the practical examples that were shared and look forward to other classes!” — Diana
